The shot put women at the 1982 European Athletics Championships was on September 6, 1982 at the Olympic Stadium of Athens discharged.

The defending champion, Olympic champion from 1980 and world record holder Ilona Slupianek from the GDR became European champion . She won before the Czechoslovak European Championship runner-up in 1978 Helena Fibingerová . Bronze went to the Soviet athlete Nunu Abashydze .
