The women's javelin at the 1982 European Athletics Championships was held on September 8 and 9, 1982 in the Olympic Stadium in Athens .

In this competition, the Greek javelin throwers won two medals, gold and bronze. Anna Verouli became European champion . She won ahead of the GDR athlete Antje Kempe , later Antje Zöllkau. Bronze went to Sofia Sakorafa .

Record improvement

European champion Anna Verouli improved the existing championship record in the final on September 9th by 86 centimeters to 70.02 m. This made her the first female javelin thrower to exceed the 70 meter mark at European Championships. GreeceGreece 

qualification

Twenty participants entered the qualifying round. The qualification distance for the direct entry into the final was 58.00 m. Exactly twelve athletes exceeded this mark (highlighted in light blue). They contested the final the following day.
