The women's 4 x 400 meter relay at the European Athletics Championships in 1982 was held on September 11, 1982 in the Olympic Stadium in Athens .

The GDR became European champions with the line-up of Kirsten Siemon , Sabine Busch , Dagmar Rübsam and Marita Koch . The team set a new world record when they won. Second place went to Czechoslovakia with Věra Tylová , Milena Matějkovičová , Taťána Kocembová and Jarmila Kratochvílová . Bronze went to the USSR ( Jelena Didilenko , Irina Olchownikowa , Olga Minejewa , Irina Baskakowa ).

Record improvement

The winning relay of the GDR ( Kirsten Siemon , Sabine Busch , Dagmar Rübsam and Marita Koch ) improved the existing championship record in the final on September 3rd by 2.15 seconds to 3: 19.05 minutes. In doing so, she also set a new world record.
