The men's 400-meter run at the 1982 European Athletics Championships was held from September 7th to 9th, 1982 in the Olympic Stadium in Athens .
The German runner Hartmut Weber became European champion . He won ahead of Andreas Knebel from the GDR. The 1980 Soviet Olympic champion and European record holder Viktor Markin won the bronze medal.
