The men's 4 x 400 meter relay at the 1982 European Athletics Championships was held on September 10 and 11, 1982 in the Olympic Stadium in Athens .

The Federal Republic of Germany became European champions with Erwin Skamrahl , Harald Schmid , Thomas Giessing and Hartmut Weber as well as Edgar Nakladal, who was also used in the run-up . Second place went to Great Britain ( David Jenkins , Garry Cook , Todd Bennett , Philip Brown ). Bronze went to the USSR with Alexander Troschtschilo , Pawel Roschtschin , Pawel Konovalov and Viktor Markin as well as Vladimir Pronin, who was also used in the run-up .
The runners used in the heats for the medal winners also received corresponding precious metal.

Record improvement

The European championship relay from the Federal Republic of Germany improved the existing EM record in the line-up of Erwin Skamrahl , Harald Schmid , Thomas Giessing and Hartmut Weber in the final on September 11th by 1.53 seconds to 3: 00.51 minutes.

The preliminary round was held in two runs. The first three seasons per run - highlighted in light blue - as well as the two fastest seasons - highlighted in light green - qualified for the final.
