Ryszard Szparak

Ryszard Szparak (born July 2, 1951 in Olsztyn ) is a former Polish hurdler whose special route was the 400-meter distance .

Szparak started for Club Gwardia Olsztyn and was the best Polish 400-meter hurdler in the early 1980s. At the 1980 Olympic Games in Moscow, he reached the semi-finals. At the European Athletics Championships in Athens in 1982 he was fifth in the final run over 400 meter hurdles and reached fourth place with the Polish team in the 4 x 400 meter relay .

He had his strongest year in 1983. In that year he reached his personal best with 49.17 seconds over the 400 meter hurdles. He came at the World Athletics Championships in Helsinki in 1983 in the finals and reached eighth place. Overall, he was five times Polish champion in hurdles and improved the national record five times. His 49.17 s are still the third best time in the history of Polish athletics over 400 meter hurdles.
