Carlos Manuel Fangueiro Soares (born December 19, 1976 in Matosinhos ), known as Fangueiro, is a former Portuguese football player and today's football coach .
Player career
Fangueiro joined the youth department of Leixões SC in his hometown at the age of 10 . In the first senior years he played with the team in the third division. In 1997, Fangueiro signed with Vitória Guimarães and had his first Bundesliga appearance for 29 minutes against Sporting Braga on September 21 of the same year. The game ended 2-3 for Braga. Fangueiro was awarded for one season each to the second division club FC Maia and Gil Vicente. In the 2002/2003 season he returned to Vitória Guimarães and missed the UEFA qualification in fourth place. Fangueiro has been featured in 28 games, 11 of which were straight from the start, and he scored 7 goals.
In the summer of 2005, Fangueiro moved to the English second division club Millwall and was used nine times in the championship. His only goal for Millwall came on 23 August in a 2-0 win against Bistrol Rovers in the first round of the League Cup.
On August 18, 2006, the released Fangueiro moved to third division club FC Walsall and scored the equalizer against Lincoln City in the last minute to make it 2-2 on the following day. On December 7, 2006, he signed with Ionikos Nikea . He signed a contract with the Greeks and became part of a team that was relegated with four points from the first division .
Fangueiro then returned to his homeland, where he played in the second division at FC Vizela and SC Beira-Mar . He set 11 personal records and played 16 games as a team captain and achieved promotion to the first division.
In May, the now 33-year-old Fangueiro signed a four-month contract with the Hà Nội T&T in Vietnam . After winning the national championship there , he returned to his home club Leixões SC in early 2011 and announced his retirement as a professional player on January 25, 2012 at the Estádio do Mor .
Coaching career
Fangueiro moved in 2012 from Leixões to the Luxembourg club Atert Bissen , where he was active as a player-coach in the 2012/13 season and then as a coach until March 2016. On March 10, 2016, Fangueiro took over the post of sports director at Union Titus Petingen and also trained the club's U19 juniors and reserve team. In the 2016/17 season , after the club parted ways with Paolo Amodio , he took on responsibility for the first team as interim coach for a month. From January 2019, Fangueiro was the club's head coach in the BGL Ligue . After his release in March 2020, he was signed by league rival F91 Dudelange for two years a short time later .
