The 3,000-meter run for women at the 1982 European Athletics Championships was held on September 9, 1982 in the Olympic Stadium in Athens .
In this competition, the Soviet runners won two medals, gold and bronze. The defending champion Svetlana Ulmassowa became the European champion . She won ahead of the Romanian Maricica Puică . Bronze went to Jelena Sipatowa .

Ingrid Kristiansen (here in 2015) finished eighth - later she was very successful on longer distances, including becoming world champion over 10,000 meters in 1987 , setting world records over 5000 and 10,000 meters and developing into a world-class marathon runner
