The men's long jump at the 1982 European Athletics Championships was held on September 8 and 9, 1982 in the Olympic Stadium in Athens .

European champion was the 1980 Olympic champion and European record holder Lutz Dombrowski from the GDR. He won ahead of the Spaniard Antonio Corgos . Bronze went to the Czechoslovak Jan Leitner .

Record improvement

European champion Lutz Dombrowski improved the existing EM record in qualifying on September 8th by seven centimeters to 8.25 m. During his victorious jump to 8.41 m in the final on September 9th, he was supported by a tail wind of 2.9 m / s, which is inadmissible for records and best lists. 22 participants competed in two groups for the qualifying round. The qualification distance for the direct entry into the final was 7.80 m. Fourteen athletes exceeded this mark (highlighted in light blue) and contested the final on the following day.
