Record improvement
Vice European champion Nenad Stekić improved the existing EM record by five centimeters to 8.05 m. The distance of the winner was supported by too strong a tailwind, so that it could not be recognized as a record.
Wind conditions
In the following summary of results, the wind conditions for the best jumps are named. The permitted limit is two meters per second. With stronger wind support, the distance will be counted for the competition, but will not be included in the lists of records and the best.
qualification
September 3, 1974, 9:00 a.m.
22 participants entered the qualifying round. The qualification distance for the direct entry into the final was 7.70 m. Since only six athletes exceeded this mark (highlighted in light blue), the final field was filled with the next best placed athletes to twelve jumpers (highlighted in light green). So finally 7.62 m was enough for the final.
