Josef Schwarz (athlete)

Josef Schwarz (born May 20, 1941 in Strabowitz , Sudetenland , now the Czech Republic ) is a former German athlete (long jump and sprint).

He started for Post-SV Munich and TSV 1860 Munich. In 1965 he became German champion over 200 meters. His best time over 200 meters was 20.9 seconds. In 1966 he was second in the German championships over 100 meters. His best time over 100 meters was 10.2 seconds.

On July 15, 1970 he set as a long jumper in the international athletics match BRD-USA in the Neckar Stadium in Stuttgart with 8.35 m at the same time, the world record for the year, the European record and a new German record. This was the largest distance up to that point that was not favored by altitude conditions (as in Mexico City ). In the same year, Schwarz won the German long jump championships. In 1967, 1971 and 1972 he came in second place. At the 1972 Olympic Games in Munich he competed with Hans Baumgartner for the DLV in the long jump, but failed in the qualification. A year earlier, “Sepp” Schwarz had finished twelfth at the European Athletics Championships in Helsinki.

With a height of 1.81 m, he had a competition weight of 72 kg.
