August 19, 1958, 5:15 p.m.

Torgny Wåhlander missed the final by five centimeters with his 7.10 m

The 21 participants took part in a joint qualification round. The qualification distance for the direct entry into the final was 7.15 m. Since only eleven jumpers exceeded this distance (highlighted in light blue), the final field was filled with the next placed athlete to twelve participants (highlighted in light green).
