qualification

August 22, 1958, 11 a.m.

The 23 participants took part in a joint qualifying round. The qualification distance for direct entry into the final was 14.60 m. Eighteen athletes reached this distance and were in the final (highlighted in light blue). Five jumpers were eliminated. With this constellation, which was found in almost all jumping and throwing competitions, it is difficult to understand why qualifications were set at all.
