The men's triple jump at the European Athletics Championships in 1986 was held on August 29 and 30, 1986 in the Neckar Stadium in Stuttgart .
In this competition there were two medals for the Soviet three-jumpers with silver and bronze. The Bulgarian European record holder Christo Markow became European champion . He won ahead of Māris Bružiks . Bronze went to Oleg Prozenko .

qualification

23 participants entered the qualifying round. The qualification distance for the direct entry into the final was 16.50 m. Eleven athletes exceeded this mark (highlighted in light blue). The final field was filled with the next placed athlete to twelve jumpers (highlighted in light green). So finally 16.45 m had to be achieved to take part in the finals.
