The men's 800-meter run at the European Athletics Championships in 1986 was held from August 26th to 28th, 1986 in the Neckar Stadium in Stuttgart .
In this competition there was a triple success for the British runners. European champion, the world record holder was Sebastian Coe , about 800 meters , among others, Vice European Champion in 1982 and two-time Olympic silver medalist from 1980 / 1984 as well as 1500 meters two-time Olympic champion in 1980/1984. Tom McKean took second place . Bronze went to Steve Cram , over 1500 meters European champion from 1982 and world champion 1983 . Cram also became European champion over 1500 meters here three days later.
