The men's 3000 meter obstacle course at the European Athletics Championships in 1986 was held on August 27 and 29, 1986 in the Neckar Stadium in Stuttgart .
European champion was the GDR runner Hagen Melzer . He won ahead of the Italian Francesco Panetta . Bronze went to the defending champion and 1983 world champion Patriz Ilg .
