The men's 50 km walk at the European Athletics Championships in 1986 was held on August 31, 1986 in the streets of Stuttgart .

In this competition, the walkers from the USSR won two medals, silver and bronze. The reigning world champion Hartwig Gauder from the GDR was European champion . Second place went to Vyacheslav Ivanenko , who was third in the World Cup in 1983 . Bronze went to Valery Sunzow .

Record improvement

European champion Hartwig Gauder improved the existing EM record on August 31 by rounded 12:35 min to 3:40:55 h. Germany Democratic Republic 1949GDR

There was no preliminary round, all 28 walkers went to the final together.

Result

The European champion from 1978 and Olympic runner-up from 1980 Jorge Llopart came in ninth place
