The men's 50 km walk at the 2002 European Athletics Championships was held on August 8, 2002 in the streets of Munich .
European champion was the defending champion, Olympic champion in 1996 / 2000 and world champion of 1997 / 2001 Robert Korzeniowski from Poland. With his winning time, he set a new world record. The Russian Alexei Voivodin took second place . Bronze went to the 2001 vice world champion, Jesús Ángel García .

At that time, records were not kept in marathon running and street walking because of the different track conditions with the exception of championship records.
Record improvement
European champion Robert Korzeniowski improved the existing EM record on August 8th at 4:16 min to 3:36:39 h. His performance was also a new world record.

There was no preliminary round, all thirty walkers competed together for the final.
