The women's 400-meter hurdles at the 2002 European Athletics Championships took place on August 7th and 8th, 2002 in the Munich Olympic Stadium.

The Romanian defending champion Ionela Târlea became European champion . She won ahead of the German Heike Meißner . Bronze went to Anna Olichwierczuk from Poland , later Anna Jesień.

Preliminary round

August 7, 2002

The preliminary round was carried out in three runs. The first two athletes per run - highlighted in light blue - as well as the two fastest runners - highlighted in light green - qualified for the final. With only twenty participants, the semi-finals were skipped, the preliminary round was followed directly by the final on the next day.
