The men's decathlon at the 2002 European Athletics Championships was held on August 7th and 8th, 2002 in the Munich Olympic Stadium.
The European champion was the Czech Olympic runner-up in 2000 and world record holder Roman Šebrle , who the year before had become the first decathlete to surpass the 9000 point mark. He won ahead of the defending champion, 2000 Olympic champion and 2001 vice world champion Erki Nool from Estonia. Bronze went to Lev Lobodin, who was third in the Russian European Championship in 1998 .

execution
The decathlon was carried out according to the same rules as today. The ten disciplines took place over two days.
- Day 1: August 7th - 100 m / long jump / shot put / high jump / 400 m
- Day 2: August 8th - 110 m hurdles / discus throw / pole vault / javelin throw / 1500 m
The rating was based on the 1985 point table, which is still valid today.
