The shot put men at the 2002 European Athletics Championships was on August 6, 2002 at the Munich Olympic Stadium held.
The European champion was the Ukrainian European Championship third from 1998 Jurij Bilonoh . The Dane Joachim Olsen came in second. Bronze went to the German Ralf Bartels .

qualification
August 6, 2002
27 participants competed in two groups for the qualifying round. The qualification distance for direct entry into the final was 20.20 m. Five athletes exceeded this mark (highlighted in light blue). The final field was filled with the seven next-placed athletes to twelve shot-putters (highlighted in light green). So finally 19.76 m had to be achieved to take part in the finals.

Ralf Bartels won his first major international medal with bronze - two World Championships bronze, one European Championship silver and the 2008 European Championship title to follow
Rutger Smith reached eighth place - in 2005 he was third in the World Cup and vice European champion in 2012 , and was also successful in the discus throw
