The shot put men at the 1962 European Athletics Championships was on 14 September 1962 at Belgrade's Partizan Stadium discharged.

The Hungarian Vilmos Varjú won . Like four years before, Wiktor Lipsnis from the USSR became vice European champion. Bronze went to Alfred Sosgórnik from Poland.

The twenty participants competed in a joint qualifying round on the morning of September 14th. The qualification distance for the direct entry into the final was 17.00 m. Fifteen athletes surpassed this mark (highlighted in light blue) and entered the final in the afternoon of the same day.
