The 800-meter run for women at the European Athletics Championships in 1962 was held on September 15 and 16, 1962 in Belgrade's Partizan Stadium .

The European champion was Gerda Kraan from the Netherlands , who set a new European record in the final. Second place went to GDR runner Waltraud Kaufmann . The Hungarian Olga Kazi won the bronze medal.

Record improvement

European champion Gerda Kraan equalized the existing championship record once and improved it once: NetherlandsNetherlands

  • 2: 02.8 min (record improved) - final on September 16

With her winning time in the final, Gerda Kraan set a new European record at the same time.

Preliminary round

Lyudmila Lysenko - Olympic champion from 1960 , then under her name Lyudmila Shevtsova - dropped out as third in her preliminary run
Her sixth place in the third run was not enough for Jannie van Eyck-Vos to take part in the final

The preliminary round was carried out in three runs. The first two athletes per run - highlighted in light blue - qualified for the final.
The preliminary round should actually take place on September 14th, followed by the semi-finals on September 15th. But given the small number of participants, the first round was canceled.
