The 800-meter race of women in the 1978 European Athletics Championships was from 29 to 31 August 1978 in the stadium Evžena Rošického of Prague held.
In this competition there was a triple victory for the runners from the Soviet Union. Tatiana Prowidochina became European champion . She won ahead of Nadezhda Mushta . Bronze went to Soja Rigel .
