Liljana Tomowa

Liliana Tomowa ( Bulgarian Лиляна Томова ; born August 9, 1946 as Liljana Todorowa in Plovdiv ) is a former Bulgarian athlete .

She was Bulgarian champion in the 400-meter run from 1967 to 1969, as well as from 1972 and 1973 . In 1972 she was also the national champion in the 800 meter run . At the European Indoor Championships in 1973, she came over 400 meters to the semifinals. A year later at the European Indoor Championships in Gothenburg, she qualified for the final over 800 meters. However, she did not appear in the final, but focused on the 4-by-2-round season. She started as the starter of the Bulgarian relay, the relay won silver behind the Swedes, but there were only two relays.

So she traveled to the 1974 European Championships in Prague without any particular merits. The Bulgarian world record holder Swetla Slatewa did not start over 800 meters and the national champion Nikolina Schterewa was eliminated in the semifinals. Liljana Tomowa won the 800 meter run in 1: 58.1 minutes with seven tenths of a second ahead of the national record running Gunhild Hoffmeister from the GDR. Four days later Hoffmeister and Tomowa fought again for the title, this time in the 1,500-meter run . Hoffmeister won in 4: 02.3 min with a national record, Todorowa ran second with 4: 05.0 min as well as the third-placed Norwegian Grete Andersen with 4: 05.2 min.

At the European Indoor Championships in Munich in 1976, Tomowa won silver behind Schtereva in 2: 02.6 minutes. At the 1976 Olympic Games in Montreal , Tomowa was eliminated in the semifinals in 2: 01.97 min. Even with the Bulgarian 4 x 400 meter relay , she did not reach the final.

Liljana Tomowa was 1.68 m tall, her competition weight was 57 kg.
