The 100-meter race of women in the 1978 European Athletics Championships on 29 and 30 August 1978 at the Stadium Evžena Rošického of Prague held.
The world record holder Marlies Göhr from the GDR became the European champion . She won ahead of the Swede Linda Haglund . Bronze went to the Soviet sprinter Lyudmila Maslakowa .
