The 4-by-100-meter relay team of men in the 1978 European Athletics Championships was on 2 and 3 September 1978 Stadium Evžena Rošického of Prague held.

Poland became European champion in the line-up of Zenon Nowosz , Zenon Licznerski , Leszek Dunecki and Marian Woronin . Second place went to the GDR with Manfred Kokot , Eugen Ray , Olaf Prenzler and Alexander Thieme . Bronze went to the Soviet Union ( Sergei Wladimirzew , Nikolai Kolesnikow , Alexandr Aksinin , Volodymyr Ihnatenko ).

Record improvement

The European championship relay from Poland improved the existing EM record in the line-up of Zenon Nowosz , Zenon Licznerski , Leszek Dunecki and Marian Voronin in the final on September 3rd by eleven hundredths of a second to 38.58 s.
