Petar Petrov (athlete)

Petar Nikolow Petrow ( Bulgarian Петър Николов Петров , English transcription Petar Petrov ; born February 17, 1955 in Swishtov , Veliko Tarnowo Oblast ) is a former Bulgarian sprinter .

In 1973 he became vice-junior European champion over 100 m and 200 m .

In 1976 he won bronze over 60 m at the European Athletics Indoor Championships in Munich and came eighth over 100 m at the Olympic Games in Montreal .

He won silver over 100 m at the Universiade 1977 and over 60 m at the European Indoor Championships 1978 in Milan. At the European Athletics Championships in 1978 in Prague he was fourth, and at the 1979 European Indoor Championships he won bronze.

At the 1980 Olympic Games in Moscow, he set a national record in the quarter-finals over 100 m and in the final took the bronze rank, behind the Briton Allan Wells and the Cuban Silvio Leonard . About 200 m he reached the quarter-finals, and in the 4 x 100 meter relay he was sixth with the Bulgarian team.

His last appearance in the finals at international championships was two years later when he took eighth place with the Bulgarian relay over 4 × 100 m.

He was Bulgarian champion six times over 100 m (1974, 1976-1980), three times over 200 m (1974, 1976, 1977) and five times in the hall over 60 m (1975, 1976, 1978-1980).
