Silvio Leonard Sarría (born September 20, 1955 in Cienfuegos ) is a former Cuban sprinter .

In 1973 he won silver over 100 m at the Universiade and over 200 m at the Central American and Caribbean Championships. In the following year, double gold over 100 and 200 m followed at the Central America and Caribbean Games.

In 1975 he was the fourth athlete in history over 100 m at the Golden Spike in Ostrava (after the Americans Eddie Hart , Rey Robinson and Steve Williams ), who ran a hand-stopped 9.9 seconds in a race without electronic timing. Then he won the Pan American Games in Mexico City over the same distance

At the 1976 Olympic Games in Montreal, he was eliminated over 100 m in the quarter-finals. In the 4 x 100 meter relay he came in fifth place with the Cuban team.

In 1977 he ran world best times over 100 m (9.98 s) and 200 m (20.08 s). Before him, only Jim Hines was electronically stopped below the 10-second mark when he won the Olympic Games in 1968 . At the Universiade and the Central America and Caribbean Championships, he won gold over 100 m and silver over 200 m, and bronze over both distances at the World Cup in Athletics in Düsseldorf .

He achieved a double victory over 100 and 200 m at the Central American and Caribbean Games in 1978 and at the Pan American Games in 1979 in San Juan. At the Athletics World Cup in Montreal in 1979 , he won the 200 m and as part of an America selection in the 4 x 100 meter relay.

He was the big favorite at the 1980 Moscow Olympics as some of his strongest competitors were missing due to the boycott of many Western countries. He ran over 100 m at the same time as Allan Wells in 10.25 s, and only the evaluation of the finish photo showed that the Briton had won the race and the Cuban had to be satisfied with the silver medal. Over 200 m Leonard finished fourth and missed the bronze medal with just 0.01 s behind the Jamaican Donald Quarrie . In the 4 x 100 meter relay, he retired with the Cuban team in the preliminary run.
