The 800-meter run for women at the 1998 European Athletics Championships was held from August 18 to 20, 1998 in the Népstadion in the Hungarian capital, Budapest .

European champion was the Russian vice world champion from 1997 Jelena Afanassjewa . The Swede Malin Ewerlöf took second place . The Austrian Stephanie Graf won the bronze medal.
