The women's high jump at the 1998 European Athletics Championships was held on August 20 and 23, 1998 in the Népstadion in the Hungarian capital, Budapest .

The European champion was the Romanian Monica Iagăr-Dinescu . She won ahead of Donata Jancewicz from Poland . Bronze went to Alina Astafei , now starting for Germany , who was second in the Olympics in 1992 - then for Romania - and in 1995 - now for Germany - had won silver at the World Cup .

qualification

August 20, 1998

26 participants competed in two groups for the qualification round. The qualification height for the direct entry into the final was 1.93 m. Seven athletes exceeded this mark (highlighted in light blue). The final field was filled with the five athletes placed next to twelve jumpers (highlighted in light green). So finally 1.90 m had to be achieved for the final.
