The women's 10,000-meter run at the 1998 European Athletics Championships was held on August 19, 1998 in the Népstadion in the Hungarian capital, Budapest .
The European champion was the Irish 3000 meter European champion from 1994 and 5000 meter world champion from 1995 Sonia O'Sullivan , who also won the title over 5000 meters four days later . The Portuguese defending champion, Olympic champion in 1996 , world champion in 1995 and vice world champion in 1997 Fernanda Ribeiro won the silver medal. Bronze went to the Romanian Lidia Șimon .
