The women's 10,000-meter run at the 1986 European Athletics Championships was held on August 30, 1986 in the Neckar Stadium in Stuttgart .

The longest long distance run on the track was on the program of the European Athletics Championships for the women for the first time.

The Norwegian world record holder Ingrid Kristiansen became the European champion . More than half a minute behind the winner, Olga Bondarenko from the USSR crossed the finish line in second place, who had won the 3000 meter title two days earlier . Bronze went to GDR runner Ulrike Bruns , who was more than 56 seconds behind Kristiansen.

The race was so fast that eight new national records were set.

First championship record

European champion Ingrid Kristiansen set the first European Championship record of 30: 23.25 minutes in the final race on August 30th .
