The women's high jump at the European Athletics Championships in 1986 was held on August 27 and 28, 1986 in Stuttgart's Neckar Stadium.
In this competition there was a double victory for the Bulgarian high jumpers. The world record holder Stefka Kostadinowa became the European champion . Second place went to Svetlana Issajewa . Bronze went to Olga Turtschak from the Soviet Union.

qualification
August 27, 1986
22 participants took part in the qualification round. The qualification height for the direct entry into the final was 1.91 m. Only one athlete skipped this mark (highlighted in light blue). For eleven other athletes who had mastered 1.89 m, it became clear that this height would be sufficient to make it to the final (highlighted in light green). This resulted in a final field with twelve high jumpers who competed together on the following day.
