The women's high jump at the 1982 European Athletics Championships was held on September 7th and 8th, 1982 in the Olympic Stadium in Athens .
The German Olympic champion from 1972 Ulrike Meyfarth became European champion . She set a new world record in the final. Second place went to Tamara Bykowa from the Soviet Union. The Italian defending champion, Olympic champion from 1980 and previous world record holder Sara Simeoni won the bronze medal.

Record improvement
European champion Ulrike Meyfarth improved the existing championship record in the final on September 8th by one centimeter to 2.02 m. At the same time she set a new world record.
qualification
September 7, 1982
19 participants took part in the qualification round. The qualification height for the direct entry into the final was 1.88 m. Exactly twelve athletes achieved this value (highlighted in light blue). These high jumpers contested the final on the following day.
