The men's discus throw at the 1982 European Athletics Championships was held on September 10 and 11, 1982 in the Olympic Stadium in Athens .

The European champion was the Czechoslovak European Championship third in 1978 and Olympic second in 1980 Imrich Bugár . Second place went to the Soviet thrower Ihor Duhinez . Bronze went to Wolfgang Warnemünde from the GDR.

qualification

September 10, 1982

24 participants entered the qualifying round. The qualification distance for the direct entry into the final was 61.00 m. Nine athletes exceeded this mark (highlighted in light blue). The final field was filled with the three next placed athletes to twelve throwers (highlighted in light green). In the end, 60.46 m had to be achieved to take part in the finals.
