Wolfgang Warnemünde

Wolfgang Warnemünde (born May 8, 1953 in Grevesmühlen ) is a former German athlete who - starting for the GDR - won the bronze medal in the discus throw at the European Championships in 1982 .

In addition to the discus throw, he was also active in the shot put . At the GDR championships in 1977 he was runner-up with the discus and fourth in the shot put. At the Universiade in the same year he won the bronze medal in both disciplines. In 1978 he was again GDR runner-up in the discus throw and qualified for the European Championships in Prague, where he took eighth place ( 61.28 m - 61.14 - 60.12 - 60.56 - invalid - invalid).

Warnemünde's greatest success was the third place at the European Championships in Athens in 1982 (invalid - 61.20 - 62.20 - 62.76 - 64.20 m - 63.40) behind Imrich Bugár from Czechoslovakia and Ihor Duhinez from the Soviet Union. He was also runner-up in the GDR this year as well as in 1984.

His personal best in the discus throw was 67.56 m and in the shot put at 19.92 m, he achieved both distances in 1980.

Wolfgang Warnemünde belonged to the SC Empor Rostock . In his active time he was 2.02 m tall and weighed 117 kg. In the documents on state doping in the GDR that became public after the fall of the Wall , the name of Warnemünde was also found among the doped athletes.
