The men's discus throw at the 2016 European Athletics Championships was held on July 7th and 9th, 2016 in the Olympic Stadium in the Dutch capital, Amsterdam .
The reigning world champion Piotr Małachowski from Poland became European champion . He had already in 2010 once the European Championship won -Titel was 2008 Olympic silver medalist and two-time runner-up ( 2009 / 2013 ). Silver went to the Belgian Philip Milanov . Third place went to the highly acclaimed Estonian Gerd Kanter . He was 2008 Olympic champion, 2012 Olympic third, 2007 world champion, two-time runner-up ( 2005 / 2011 ), two-time World Cup -Dritter (2009/2013) and two-time European Vice Champion ( 2006 / 2012 ).

qualification
Thirty participants competed in two groups for the qualifying round. The qualification distance for the direct entry into the final was 64.00 m. Ten athletes exceeded this mark (highlighted in light blue). The final field was filled with the two next placed athletes to twelve throwers (highlighted in light green). So finally 63.74 m had to be achieved for the final.
