The men's 100-meter run at the 2016 European Athletics Championships was held on July 6th and 7th, 2016 in the Olympic Stadium in the Dutch capital, Amsterdam .
It was won by the Dutch 200 meter European champion from 2012 Churandy Martina . The second place went to the native Jamaicans and since 2015 for the Turkey -starting Jak Ali Harvey . Bronze went to the French European Championship runner-up in 2012, Jimmy Vicaut .

doping
There was a doping case in this discipline:
Kevin Moore , starting for Malta , who was disqualified in the second run and thus eliminated, tested positive for illegal substances. The test was carried out using a sample taken on June 11, 2016. The sprinter received a four-year ban until September 24, 2020. His results, which he had achieved from June 11, 2016, have been canceled.

For this discipline, a new competition mode was used for the first time. The eight strongest athletes on the European annual best list did not yet have to compete in the preliminary round, but only entered the semi-finals.
