The women's hammer throw at the 2016 European Athletics Championships was held on July 6th and 8th, 2016 in the Olympic Stadium in the Dutch capital, Amsterdam .

The three-time world champion ( 2009 / 2013 / 2015 ) and Olympic champion of 2012 Anita Włodarczyk from Poland became the third consecutive time European champion. She was also third in the European Championship in 2010 and the holder of the world record. The German world champion from 2007 , two-time vice world champion ( 2009/2011 ), Olympic runner-up in 2012 and European champion in 2010 Betty Heidler won the silver medal. Bronze went to Hanna Skydan from Azerbaijan .

qualification

Thirty participants competed in two groups for the qualifying round. The qualification distance for the direct entry into the final was 70.00 m. Five athletes exceeded this mark (highlighted in light blue). The final field was filled with the seven next placed athletes to twelve throwers (highlighted in light green). So finally 68.07 m had to be achieved for the final.
