Berta Castells Franco (born January 24, 1984 in Torredembarra ) is a Spanish hammer thrower .

In 2001 she won silver at the World Youth Championships, and bronze at the European Junior Championships in 2001 and 2003.

In the adult division, she retired from qualification at the European Athletics Championships in Munich in 2002 and was eighth in the Athletics World Cup .

In 2003, at the World Athletics Championships in Paris / Saint-Denis , another out followed in the preliminary round. In 2004 she was Ibero-American runner-up. At the Olympic Games in Athens , she did not get beyond qualification, nor at the 2005 World Cup in Helsinki, the 2006 European Championship in Gothenburg, the 2007 World Cup in Osaka, the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing and the 2009 World Cup in Berlin.

In 2010 she was again Ibero-American runner-up and ninth at the EM in Barcelona . In 2011 she was eliminated again in the preliminary round at the World Cup in Daegu .

From 2003 to 2011 she was national champion nine times in a row. So far she has set 13 national hammer throw records, most recently on August 6, 2011 in Málaga with 69.53 m.

On June 16, 2016, she improved the Spanish record to 70.32 m in Manresa.

Berta Castells is 1.74 m tall and weighs 79 kg. She is owned by José Luis Velasco and has been working for Valencia Terra i Mar since 2006.
