Seki not only draws in the Japanese style, but also gives his character designs features of western cartoons. In order to design the figures as true to detail and historically authentic as possible, Seki used the impressions of the painter Norman Rockwell from the Saturday Evening Post , or Sears & Roebuck catalogs from 1902, for example to explain American customs, character traits and designs of the characters in the anime to define Tom Sawyer.
