World Masterpiece Theater
World Masterpiece Theater ( Japanese 世界 名作 劇場 , Sekai Meisaku Gekijō ), WMT for short , describes a series of anime series that were created between 1974 and 1997 and again since 2007 and are based on novels.
The first Meisaku is Heidi , which like all other WMTs was produced by Nippon Animation (or Zuiyo Enterprise ). In the years that followed, a new series was broadcast annually on Fuji TV . In 1993, Tico, a great friend, appeared in a series that was not based on a book. In 1997, the series of novel adaptations was discontinued because the last two series Meiken Lassie and Ie Naki Ko Remi no longer met expectations. In 2007 she was resumed with Les Misérables: Shōjo Cosette , which aired on Fuji TV's BS Fuji satellite station; but only ran until 2009.
Anime greats like Isao Takahata and Hayao Miyazaki worked on the series . For the character design of the series Yoshifumi Kondō and Shūichi Seki were responsible. Almost all productions were also broadcast on German television.
