The secret of Daddy Longlegs ( jap. 私のあしながおじさん, Watashi no Ashinaga Ojisan , dt "My uncle / Daddy Longlegs".) Is an anime - TV series from 1990. The story is based on the novel Daddy Longlegs by Jean Webster and Second anime adaptation of the original based on Ashinaga Ojisan from 1979. The anime is also part of the World Masterpiece Theater series .

The orphan Judy Abbot receives a scholarship to a prestigious private school in New York . She did not get to know her benefactor and only knows his name, Mister Smith, and knows that he must have a long leg. However, she writes him regularly and reports on her life and adventures. She also meets the rich young Jerve and falls in love with him.
Production and publication
The series was produced in Japan in 1990. The anime was created in the animation studio Nippon Animation as part of the World Masterpiece Theater series. It was directed by Kazuyoshi Yokota and written by Hiroshi Ōtsuka and Nobuyuki Fujimoto . The character design was created by Shūichi Seki and the artistic direction was Shigeru Morimoto . Mitsuko Horie sang the theme song Growing Up ( グ ロ ・ イ ン プ ・ ア ッang , Gurōingu Appu ) and the ending Kimi no Kaze ( キ ミ の 風 ) was written by Mitsuko Horie and Shines.
It was first broadcast in Japan on January 4, 1990 on Fuji Television . In Germany, the series was broadcast for the first time from January 1, 2001 to January 26, 2001 on RTL II . Of the total of 40 episodes, only the first 20 were dubbed into German, although all 40 episodes were announced in the program announcements. The series has also been shown on Italian, Spanish, French, Polish and Filipino television.
