The girl from the farm ( Japanese 牧場 の 少女 カ ト リ , Makiba no Shōjo Katori , German "(cattle) pasture / farm girl Katri", also Katri the Milkmaid or Katri, Girl of the Meadows ) is a Japanese anime - television series from 1984. The story is based on the Finnish novel Paimen, piika ja emäntä by Auni Nuolivaara and is part of the World Masterpiece Theater series .

Katoli is sent to her grandparents' farm in Finland by her mother, who works as a maid, at the age of six and is left there because the mother has to stay in Germany. Katoli doesn't know how her mother is doing and whether she is even still alive, since the story takes place in the First World War . From there on, she has to learn to become independent. She helps with the household and looks for a job. She is supported by her dachshund Abel. She gets older over time, experiences various adventures on farms and as a babysitter and develops from a clumsy girl to a responsible young woman.
Production and publication
The series was produced by Nippon Animation in Japan in 1984 . The 49 episodes were based on a script by Akira Miyazaki . Directed by Hiroshi Saitō and responsible producer was Takaji Matsudo . The character design comes from Noboru Takano and the artistic direction was Taisaburō Abe . The opening Love With You - Ai no Present (Love with You 〜 愛 の プ レ ゼ ン ト 〜 , ~ Puresento ) and the ending Kaze no Komoriuta ( 風 の 子 守 歌 ) sang Chie Kobayashi . Tōru Fuyuki was responsible for the series music .
The series first aired on Fuji TV in Japan between January 8, 1984 and December 23, 1984 . It was first broadcast in Germany on March 8, 1993 on RTL II . The series was shown on French television as early as 1987. Later also in Spain, Italy, the Netherlands and Portugal.
