background

Anne with the red hair is an anime classic from the WMT series, a series of anime series based on novels. The series is based on the first volume of the Anne on Green Gables novels by Canadian writer Lucy Maud Montgomery , published in 1908.

Anne with the red hair adheres very closely to the literary model. The series has been hugely popular with Japanese girls and women who flock to the real Green Gables on Prince Edward Island in Canada since it first aired in 1979 .

The series is directed by Isao Takahata , who has been running Studio Ghibli with Hayao Miyazaki since 1985 . The latter was involved in the layout of episodes 1-15 before stepping out of the series and leaving the production company Nippon Animation. The character designer of the series is Yoshifumi Kondō , whose character design and portrayal of the transformation of young Anne into an adult has been widely praised by critics.

The German title song, composed by Alexander Blechinger, is sung by Joy Fleming . The Japanese openings and endings are Kikoeru kashira and Samenai Yume , they are sung by Ritsuko Ōwada .
