Yoshifumi Kondo

Yoshifumi Kondō ( Jap. 近藤喜文 , Kondō Yoshifumi ; * 31 March 1950 in Gosen , Niigata Prefecture , Japan ; † 21st January 1998 in Tachikawa Tokyo , Japan) was a Japanese animator , who in his last years for Studio Ghibli worked . There he worked on the films Anne with the Red Hair , Sherlock Hound , Kiki's Delivery Service , The Last Fireflies , Tears of Memory - Only Yesterday and Princess Mononoke . Kondo also directed Whisper of the Heart .

Kondō died of an aneurysm in 1998 . His death is believed to have been caused by overwork and the main reason for Hayao Miyazaki's intermittent retirement announcement.

Career

• April 1965: Joined Muramatsu High School, where he became a member of the art club and worked with the future mangaka Kimio Yanagisawa .
• April 1968: After leaving school, he moves to Tokyo, where he studies animation at Tokyo Design College .
• October 1, 1968: Kondō is employed by A Production (formerly Shin'ei Dōga) and participates in the production of Kyojin no Hoshi and Lupine III .
• June 20, 1978: Kondo moves to Nippon Animation , where he works on Future Boy Conan and Anne with the red hair .
• 1978: Co-authored a textbook for future animators Animation Book (ア ニ メ ー シ ョ ン の 本Animēshon no Hon ).
• December 16, 1980: Joins Telecom Animation Film , where he becomes character designer for Sherlock Hound .
• March 16, 1985: Kondo gives up his job at Telecom Animation Film and is admitted to hospital from June to August for pneumothorax .
• January 1986: Joins Nippon Animation.
• January 1987: Moves to Studio Ghibli .
• 1995: Makes his directorial debut with the film Whisper of the Heart .
• January 21, 1998: Kondo dies of an aneurysm at Tachikawa Municipal Hospital in Tokyo Prefecture at the age of 47 .
