content

The Swiss doctor Ernst Robinson receives a letter from a friend asking him to emigrate to Australia and continue to work there. After talking to his family, he decides to put this into practice. On the voyage, the ship is damaged by a storm and lands in front of an abandoned island. Except for the Robinson family, everyone on board has disappeared. Members of the Robinson family go ashore and explore the island. After many experiences, they leave the island and come to Australia.

Differences to the template

The story is based roughly on the novel The Swiss Robinson by the Swiss writer Johann David Wyss .

The main character of this anime series is the girl Flone, who does not exist in the original novel. In the novel, the Robinson family consists of a father, a mother and four sons - Fritz, the eldest (16 years), Ernst (14 years), Jack (12 years) and the youngest, Franz (9 years). Also in the anime version, the eldest son is named Franz instead of Fritz, and the character of Jack is a three-year-old boy in the anime, not a ten-year-old boy as in the novel. In the anime, Franz is 15-16 years old, Flone 10-11 years old and Jack, the youngest, is 3-4 years old.

Characters

Flone Robinson ( フ ロ ー ネ ・ ロ ビ ン ソ ン , Furōne Robinson )
Speaker: Yoshiko Matsuo
Flone is the protagonist of the series and is the middle daughter of the Robinson family. She is ten years old at the beginning of the story, later celebrating her eleventh birthday on the island. Flone loves the outdoors, is spirited and ready to do almost anything. She always says what she's thinking and enjoys trying new things and adventuring. The story is usually told from their point of view.
Franz Robinson ( フ ラ ン ツ ・ ロ ビ ン ソ ン , Furantsu Robinson )
Speaker: Tōru Furuya
Franz, Flone's older brother, is 15 years old and went to high school in his home country of Switzerland. He longs to become a composer and sets out to fulfill his dream.
Dr. Ernst Robinson ( エ ル ン ス ト ・ ロ ビ ン ソ ン , Erunsuto Robinson )
Speaker: Katsuhiko Kobayashi (episodes 1–9), Osamu Kobayashi (from episode 10)
Ernst Robinson is the 46-year-old father of Flone and the head of the family. He is a wealthy doctor in Bern who helps poor people who cannot afford medical treatment. He decides to immigrate to Australia with his family after receiving a letter from Australia.
Anna Robinson ( ア ン ナ ・ ロ ビ ン ソ ン , Anna Robinson )
Speaker: Michiko Hirai
35-year-old Anna is Flone's mother and is easily frightened by small rodents, reptiles, and other things. She is the typical housewife who takes care of the house and the children. She looks worriedly at the carefree, sometimes overly temperamental daughter, Flone, and the smoking habit of Captain Morton. She accompanies her husband on the trip to Australia because she will always stand behind his decisions, she says.
Jack Robinson ( ジ ャ ッ ク ・ ロ ビ ン ソ ン , Jakku Robinson )
Speaker: Makoto Kōsaka
Jack is the youngest son at the age of 3. In contrast to his mother, he seems like his big sister Flone to be disposition and not afraid of crawling animals. Like his sister, he keeps getting into trouble. He loves making things out of seashells, collecting small animals, insects and reptiles.
