Real Drive ( jap. RD潜脳調査室 ), also often referred to as Real Drive called, is the title of a Japanese Anime - television series . Parallel to the ongoing series, an adaptation of the same name drawn by Momotarō Miyano will be published as a manga.

action

At the end of 2012, the researcher Eiichirō Kushima ( 久 島 永 一 朗 , Kushima Eiichirō ) carried out various experiments on a new system for networking society. Since many principles of the system are related to diving , he conducts various experiments together with the diver and friend Masamichi Haru ( 波 留 真理 , Haru Masamichi ). However, one of these attempts resulted in a serious incident in which Masamichi, usually called Haru , was seriously injured and did not wake up again until about 50 years later in 2061. He is now an old man, 81 years old, and can only move around using a wheelchair. He receives support from Holon ( ホ ロ ン , Horon ) - a female-looking android - and from the 15-year-old student Minamo Aoi ( 蒼 井 ミ ナ モ , Aoi Minamo ), who has just arrived on the island .

Since he woke up from his coma, humanity has changed completely, because most people are connected to the meta-real network (also known as metal for short ) through an implant , which enables them to exchange information, thoughts and feelings and sensations with each other . This network is controlled and monitored by an organization called the EISF . People can immerse themselves in the virtual worlds created in this way to find out about all kinds of things or to try them out. Haru, on the other hand, initially refuses this network, although he has had the corresponding implant for 50 years. Minamo, on the other hand, did not receive an implant, which sometimes makes it very difficult for her to find her way in a world of networking. Nevertheless, she always tries her best and, in the event of an incident, manages to restore power to the island, without which the patients and those dependent on the network would have died. She was accompanied by Haru, who immersed himself in metal for the first time in 50 years and thus regained part of his joie de vivre.

Starting from this point of view, many smaller plot sections are told which accompany Minamo and Haru in their daily life. Haru now acts as a cyber diver on behalf of EISF to investigate various crimes and phenomena within this network, in which Minamo is repeatedly involved in the real world. They are not only supported by Holon, but also by Minamo's older brother Sōta Aoi ( 蒼 井 ソ ウ タ , Aoi Sōta ). He is also an employee of EISF and very fixated on martial arts. So he trains again and again with Holon, to whom he is inferior in most fights, which is ultimately also due to the fact that he sees a real woman in Holon, to whom he cannot give the final push or kick.

After the individual episodes give the person to be entertained a sufficiently deep insight into the fictional world, a final act follows. In this, some influential people who have already directed parts of the plot over and over again try to control the world's climate through a newly developed technology. Although not acting in bad faith, they come into conflict with Eiichirō Kushima, who is robbed of his artificial brain and dies as a result of an attack. However, part of his personality lives on in metal . Together, the people in the Circle of Friends of Minamo try the Dr. Kushima because of concerns about sabotaging a facility that was never operational. However, they do not succeed in preventing their start and a global catastrophe is looming. However, Haru Masamichi can track down the remains of Eiichirō and through him finds a way to restore the flow of the seas and the inner rhythm of the earth.

After the end credits of the last episode, a short scene is shown where Minamo finds Haru in a young figure who appears near the beach.

Conception

With RD Sennō Chōsashitsu , Masamune Shirow continues the ideas from the ghost-in-the-shell universe and once again formed a world in which people are connected to one another via a global network, which also harbors unpredictable dangers.

When it comes to character design, the female characters in particular play a special role, since in the year 2061 thick women will represent the ideal of beauty. Since this affects almost all female characters who are well proportioned, there was very divided reactions among viewers and fans of the series.
