Yoshihisa Hirano (born March 8, 1984 in Kyoto , Japan ) is a professional Japanese baseball player. He is currently under contract with the Seattle Mariners in Major League Baseball . Previously he played for the Arizona Diamondbacks (MLB) and for the Orix Buffaloes of Nippon Professional Baseball (NPB).
Hirano is a right-handed pitcher. As a Reliver, he used the Fastball and Forkball as his primary throws.

Hirano was selected by the Buffaloes with the first pick for the 2005 NPB Draft.
Hirano spent 12 seasons with the Buffaloes from 2006 to 2019. He started out as a starter and moved to the position of Relieves for the 2010 season. From the 2012 season to the end of his contract in Orix, he played as Closer. In total, he achieved 156 saves in these 12 seasons with the Buffaloes.
In 2011 he won the NPB Best Middle Reliever Award. In 2014 he led the NPB Pacific League with 40 saves.
In his final season at Orix, Hirano had 29 saves with an ERA of 2.67 and 47 strikeouts.
Major League Baseball
Arizona Diamondbacks
On December 22, 2017, Hirano signed a two-year, $ 6 million deal with the Arizona Diamondbacks. On September 12, 2018, he scored his first save. In his first season outside of Japan, he played 75 games. He scored 4 wins and 3 losses and accumulated 3 saves in 66 1⁄3 innings.
On April 18, 2019, he scored his first save of the 2019 season against the Atlanta Braves . In September he was put on the 10-day injured list with an elbow infection. He finished his second season in Major League Baseball with 5-5 win-lots, an ERA of 4.75, a save and 61 strikeouts.
After the 2019 season, his contract with the Diamondbacks expired and Hirano became a free agent.
Seattle Mariners
In the off-season , Hirano signed a one-year contract with the Seattle Mariners. Due to a COVID-19 infection and the subsequent necessary training, he missed the start of the season.
International career
Hirano played for the Japanese national team at the 2017 World Baseball Classic . Japan reached the semi-finals, but lost in this with 1: 2 to the United States and finished the tournament in third.
